Hidden Gems near Bangalore- Part 3 Srirangapatnam

Not very far from Bangalore hustle bustle lies the sleepy town of Srirangapatnam. I am sure many of us have visited the place for a one day trip to Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary, if not do visit its an ornithologist paradise especially during the autumn season where herds of migratory birds take shelter in this area. This town for those of you who are new to this zone is very famous for Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, one of the few temples having Lord Vishnu in sleeping avatar idol.

Having explored these places earlier during my last Mysore visit we were looking for the weekend getaway to just relax and Do Nothing at an affordable cost Our search led us for the first time to Karnataka tourism website and we were surprised to find a beautiful hotel nestled near to the Kaveri river with some excellent feedback. Cautious we were because till now our tryst with government maintained resorts and homestays had been a disaster, we still went ahead and thought of taking the chance. We booked an AC bungalow for us and started off on Saturday morning.

The drive itself was pretty good as the roads till Mysore have now become very nice. To reach the place you have to take a left from the highway and proceed at a slower pace because of the condition of the road.

The hotel has ample parking and as we moved towards the reception it was clear that this was going to be an exception to the image of government hotels which we have. The place had a huge play area and the garden full of small but beautiful plants all around. The amidst the natural feeling is hugely complemented by the presence of ducks, hens, and monkeys lurking all around. The bungalow is also well maintained and can have more than a 3 people very easily. You can actually ask for an extra bed at a very nominal cost if the group size is big. At that time the cost of the bungalow was around Rs 2500 all-inclusive along with morning breakfast.

The best of the view is though reserved for the backyard where Kaveri literally touches this place. They have ample place to sit and relax near the place, in fact in the evening they will also lit fire to enjoy the serenity of the place.

How to Book

Go to https://kstdc.co/mayura-hotels/ and book it. Don't try booking on other sites I saw one family struggling to confirm their booking from some travel website.

Final verdict

Very helpful staff, okayish food, Beer is available on the premise, the restaurant is open to the public during the daytime that's a negative but overall a great place to hang out, relax and unwind. A must go place.

Points to remember:

- No shop available within few kilometers of the place so carry all your important items beforehand.
- Sleep early to wake up early when the place is not open to public and delightful to watch.
- Coracle boats are available.
